Abstract

Gary Grubb attended the 2010 Cultural Science Workshop at the University of Durham on behalf of the AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council – the primary research funding agency for this disciplinary array in England). He made the following presentation on the AHRC’s strategy and emerging themes, highlighting the opportunities for researchers from the arts and humanities to take up some of the directions being pursued in cultural science. These include ‘Connected Communities’ and ‘Digital Economy’ as top-level interdisciplinary challenges, and themes such as ‘digital transformations’ and ‘science in culture’ as specific challenges for arts and humanities research. The presentation offers unique insight into the AHRC’s forward thinking, and advice for researchers on upcoming opportunities.
